Verona is renown worldwide for its outstanding Roman amphitheatre, the Arena. Built in the first century, it is still in use today and is internationally famous for the large-scale opera performances given there. In Italy, this is certainly the place to experience opera, another outstanding Italian tradition.
EVENT DESCRIPTION
A special night where the students will enjoy one of the most famous Verdi’s operas: “Aida”.
THE OPERA
Aida is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni. Set in Egypt, it was commissioned by and first performed at Cairo’s Khedivial Opera House on 24th December 1871. Verdi always considered the Italian premiere, held at La Scala, Milan on 8th February 1872, the real premiere.
