Professor Bastieri, astrophysicist at the University of Padova has just been awarded the prestigious Chinese prize called “One-thousand-talents”.

This is an international program whose aim is to recruit 1000 foreign talents who could make a contribution to Chinese research, technology or culture. Each candidate has to present a three years strategic project.

Prof. Denis Bastieri’s project consists of three parts:

  1. The basic preparation of students majoring in Science and Technology, in order to place them in an international context in FAST (the 500m radio telescope) Qiannan Normal School for Nationalities and the University of Guangzhou.
  2. Creation of a work group with specific competence in the data analysis (big data) of the Astrophysics and Astroparticle Physics area.
  3. Cooperation with Cantonese Universities and research institutes in the interest of the observation of the high energy universe. In general the establishment of bridge on Astrophysics research and scientific data analysis between Italy and China. The major partners are the University of Padova and the University of Guangzhou.


Moreover, one of the students (here depicted with prof. Bastieri) who attended the ShanghaiTech summer course last year is now working at a project in Prof.Bastieri’s laboratory.
